Prerana Foundation – Women Empowerment Project

A focused 3-month program (April–June 2023) empowering 150 women across 20 villages in Sangli district, with hands-on training in beauty services, fashion design, spices and cake making, plus career guidance for 700+ students. Early outcomes include new home-based salons and tailoring businesses.

Program Components

Beautician Course

22 participants, eyebrow threading, facials, waxing, hair design, saree draping, etc. Outcome: at least 4 women launched home salons.

Fashion Designing

22 participants; cutting, stitching, blouses, dresses, pants. Outcome: 2 women started businesses in mediately, more preparing to follow.

Spices (Masala) Making

32 participants, practical training in dry/wet masalas, mising, grinding, packing, basic marketing.

Pastry/Cake Making

32 participants hands on cakes (chocolate, butterscotch, pineapple, black/white forest, blueberty, doll cakes).

Entrepreneurship Development (EDP)

~20 youth; mindset, enterprise selection, market survey, proposal writing, communication.

Career Guidance

12 sessions across schools courses after SSC/HSC/Graduation, public-sector exams, IT| paths, nursing, lab tech, interior design.

Outcomes

  • 150 women trained in employable, kills; ongoing follow-ups and linkages to financial institutions/ government schemes.
  • > 700 youth/students oriented to career pathways.
  • Micro-enterprise starts already visible (home salons, tailoring), with more in progress.
  • Migration risk reduced among trained participants.
